Some people make a difference through the work they do every day. Mama Tsehay Hailu, a community volunteer in Adihaki, Mekelle, Tigray, is one of them.

A cherished community volunteer, Mama Tsehay is known for her warm smile, generosity, and willingness to help wherever she is needed. She supports people who need assistance, helps patients when they require support, keeps the surrounding areas clean and orderly, and contributes to maintaining a welcoming environment for everyone. Whether helping with daily tasks, offering practical support, or simply being there when someone needs a hand, she approaches each responsibility with care and commitment. Through these efforts, she makes a meaningful contribution to the community and to the people who rely on its services.

Her name, Tsehay, means “sun,” a name that reflects the warmth she brings to those around her.

Mama Tsehay shared a timeless Amharic proverb:

“የተንቀሳቀሰ ጎረሰ፤ የተቀመጠ ቆመጠ።”
“The one who moved ate; the one who sat remained stiff.”

The proverb reflects the value of staying active, taking initiative, and contributing through action. Mama Tsehay puts this spirit into practice through the everyday support and care she gives to those around her.
