About MCMDO
Empowering families, transforming communities.
Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is an Ethiopian indigenous, non-governmental, nonprofit humanitarian and development organization established in 1997 by a group of dedicated individuals from diverse backgrounds.
For more than 27 years, MCMDO has been working with vulnerable communities facing extreme poverty and crises—saving lives, restoring dignity, and building resilience.
Our History
Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is an indigenous, non-governmental, and not-for-profit humanitarian organization founded in 1997. It was established by a group of dedicated individuals from different backgrounds to address the socioeconomic problems of street mothers and children in Ethiopia. At the time of its establishment, the organization’s main focus was preventing “street-ism” and promoting rehabilitation.
Formerly known as the Welfare for the Street Mothers and Children Organization (WeSMCO), the organization was renamed MCMDO in 2009 to reflect its broadened thematic areas. That same year, MCMDO was registered with the Charities and Societies Organization (CSO) as an Ethiopian resident charity with a certificate number 0022. Following the government’s reform, MCMDO was re-registered in 2019 as a local organization with the same certificate number under the Civil Societies Organization Proclamation No. 1113/2019.
Our Vision, Mission, and Values
MCMDO aspires to see mothers and children leading decent and sustainable lives in a safe and healthy environment.
