On 15 August 2026, the Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO), in collaboration with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), convened a stakeholder consultative workshop in Assosa City, Benishangul Gumuz Region, Ethiopia, to strengthen coordination and collaboration around Community Based Protection Network (CBPN) interventions in Ura Refugee Site, Assosa Woreda, Benishangul Gumuz Region, Ethiopia, and the surrounding host community.

The workshop brought together key protection stakeholders, including the Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), International Rescue Committee (IRC), the Women and Children Office, and CBPN members. Participants shared experiences, discussed protection priorities, and explored ways to strengthen coordinated and community based protection efforts.

Discussions highlighted the importance of strong community protection networks, timely information sharing, effective referrals, and coordinated action to ensure protection concerns are identified and addressed effectively.

Stakeholders welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to stronger collaboration and a more effective protection network.

MCMDO and DRC remain committed to working alongside government institutions, humanitarian partners, community structures, and CBPN members to promote safer, more inclusive, and responsive protection services for refugees and host communities.

Stronger coordination. Stronger networks. Stronger protection.
