On 12 June 2026, Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) officially launched the Regional Start Up Workshop for its new emergency project, “Reinforcing Protection and GBV Response Services in Yallo Woreda, Afar Zone 4.”

Funded by the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF/OCHA), the initiative aims to strengthen protection services and gender based violence (GBV) response mechanisms for communities severely affected by prolonged drought and displacement in Yallo Woreda. The project will focus on providing safe spaces, community based psychosocial support, and other essential protection services to vulnerable populations, helping restore safety, dignity, and resilience.

The launch workshop brought together regional stakeholders and government representatives, highlighting the importance of coordinated action in responding to the humanitarian challenges facing communities in the Afar Region.

During the event, the Afar Regional Finance Bureau commended MCMDO and EHF/OCHA for launching the timely emergency intervention, noting the severe impact that drought and displacement have had on local communities and resources in Zone 4. The Bureau also pledged its support by facilitating smooth administrative processes to ensure that project activities are implemented efficiently and that assistance reaches those who need it most.

Through this initiative and its continued collaboration with partners and local authorities, MCMDO reaffirms its commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and delivering lifesaving humanitarian assistance to communities affected by crisis in Ethiopia.
