MCMDO Executive Director Visits Selkleka Health Center to Review Progress
Dr. Solomon Getachew, Executive Director of MCMDO, recently conducted a site visit to Selkleka Health Center in Laelay Koraro Woreda, Northwestern Zone of Tigray, to review progress in transforming the facility into a comprehensive model health center for the region.
MCMDO is supporting the woreda and Selkleka Health Center in strengthening the local health system through funding provided by the European Union (EU) through UNICEF. The support focuses on strengthening health services while creating opportunities for young people and the surrounding community.
Key areas of support include:
Youth Empowerment and Networking: Construction of a dedicated multipurpose facility to provide a range of youth focused health services and activities.
Micro gardening Initiatives: Expansion of local gardens to support the greening of the health facility while creating income generating opportunities for local youth.
Income Generating Activities: Establishment of coffee and tea service setups to support small business opportunities and youth livelihoods.
During the visit, Dr. Solomon observed progress across the different initiatives, including the construction of the youth multipurpose facility, development of micro gardens, establishment of coffee and tea business setups, youth savings practices and bylaws, and construction of poultry housing.
He also met with the Health Center Director and youth representatives to discuss the progress and ongoing activities. Both expressed their appreciation for the support provided by MCMDO in partnership with UNICEF and highlighted the contribution of the initiatives to strengthening the health center and creating opportunities for young people.
The visit provided an opportunity to assess progress on the ongoing interventions and reaffirm MCMDO’s commitment to strengthening health systems and supporting community centered development.
