Dr. Velma Kirksey-Tarver the founder and director of IGO has been a remarkable supporter and a humble advocate for MCMDO since 2010. She has played a pivotal role in the “One to One Sponsorship Program,” providing critical support to needy children. Through her involvement with IGO, a US-based nonprofit organization, she has ensured that the program receives the necessary unconditional cash support to cover basic needs and education for the most vulnerable children enrolled.
Thanks to the partnership between IGO and MCMDO, an average of more than 70 children benefit annually from the program. Currently, 64 children are under the IGO and MCMDO sponsorship umbrella. The program has been instrumental in allowing these children to attend school and meet their basic needs, including access to food.
Dr. Kirksey-Tarver’s dedication to this important intervention has been priceless. As she does every year, at the end of January 2025, Dr. Velma Kirksey-Tarver visited the children. During her visit she motivated them to stay strong and excel in their education, encouraging them to achieve high ranks in their studies. Her unwavering support and words of encouragement continue to inspire and uplift these children to strive for a brighter future.

In Afar region Elidar Woreda Sula Kebele a mother received crucial support from MCMDO MHNT during her home delivery! Despite being closely monitored throughout her pregnancy, the distance from her house to the nearest health center posed a significant challenge. Our team stepped in to assist with the delivery at her home and subsequently referred her to the Health Center for further care.

As part of our Integrated multi-sector assistance to IDPs and Host communities in Tselemti Woreda and Mystery Town, our MCMDO team has successfully Distributed WASH NFI Kits.
The items delivered include washing basins, buckets, jerrycans, laundry and bathing soaps, water purification tablets, sanitary napkins, underwear, and sanitary pads.
